Having decided at 17 that I wanted to be an English teacher, I have spent almost 25 years teaching Literature, Language, Media, Film, Linguistics, Creative Writing and Drama in the UK - subjects that I studied to degree level. I have run departments; enjoyed international trips; been involved in university projects; liaised with county-wide teacher training and mentoring and, more recently, worked as a research coach, ensuring that current pedagogy is embedded in high-quality teaching and learning.

I love my subject areas: I recognise the power of stories to both unite us in the shared experiences of humanity, whilst celebrating; promoting curiosity and exploring our different cultures and perspectives. I have just spent two years as Head of English in Thailand and have found that this is even more pertinent within the international school community.

I believe that when students can trust your subject knowledge and know that you genuinely care about their progress, understanding and points of view, you can create a safe and lively environment of enjoyable and confident learning in which everyone can thrive.

I am looking forward to embracing life in Portugal. When not in the classroom, I can be found swimming, cooking, eating, practicing yoga - not all at the same time - and watching my son (apparently the next Ronaldo) playing football.
