STAFF PROFILE - HEAD OF SCIENCE (& PHYSICS SPECIALIST)

“I AIM TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE LEARN ABOUT SCIENCE IN A FUN WAY AND TO SEE THE SAME YOUNG PEOPLE GROW, MATURE AND BECOME READY TO FACE THE WORLD.”

After qualifying as a Physics teacher, I spent 19 years teaching in a variety of schools in the North East of England. When our youngest son went to university, my wife and I decided to have an adventure and move to Qatar to work for two years. Two years soon became ten and having been Key Stage 3 Science coordinator, Assistant Head of Science as well as Head of Physics, it was time to move closer to home. We moved to Ibiza where I spent 2 years as the Head of Science, before realising that life on a small island was not really for us, so we are now making the move to Lisbon.

I started teaching with the aim of helping young people learn about Science in a fun way and to see these same young people grow, mature and become ready to face the world. I believe that making Science lessons practically based students gain a better understanding of the concepts as well as learning important skills that they can take forward to help them across the curriculum as well as into everyday life. As a teacher I hope all my students develop the skills they need to help them become well rounded members of society. I also aim to inspire a lifelong curiosity in the world around them.
