STAFF PROFILE - HEAD OF SECONDARY
Michael Roberts
“I BEGAN WORKING IN EDUCATION BECAUSE I WANTED TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE FULFIL THEIR POTENTIAL AND BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES. I AM STILL DRIVEN BY THE DESIRE TO NURTURE AND SUPPORT THEM TO MAKE PROGRESS EVERYDAY.”
I read English Literature at Cardiff university and, after a couple of years working in a call centre in Bristol, I started my teacher training in 1998. My first job was just outside Bristol, then after five years I moved to Singapore to teach at Tanglin Trust School, a British International school. Initially I thought I would be there for two years, but I loved it so much I stayed for 18! My wife and I finally decided it was time to move closer to home, so we had a three year stint on the Isle of Man where I was deputy head at King William's College. All three of these schools were very different: I have taught in the state sector, a leading international school and a British boarding school. Now in Lisbon, my aim as an educator remains unchanged: I got into education because I wanted to help young people fulfil their potential and believe in themselves. I am still driven by the desire to nurture and support them to make progress every day.
ABOUT MR ROBERTS
In my spare time I love cooking, travel, reading, writing and spending time with my family. I used to be very sporty but injuries mean I enjoy sport from the armchair these days. I also love music. Both creating and listening to music brings me a great deal of joy.
