STAFF PROFILE - PORTUGUESE & SPANISH TEACHER

Isabel Rocha

I ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO SEE PORTUGUESE NOT ONLY AS A SUBJECT TO STUDY BUT ALSO AS A LIVING LANGUAGE THAT ENRICHES THEIR OUTLOOK ON THE WORLD.”

I am a passionate and experienced teacher of Portuguese who has spent much of my life helping others to discover the beauty of the language, the literature and the culture it represents. Teaching, for me, is not simply about grammar and vocabulary; it is about creating connections, opening doors to new perspectives, and inspiring confidence in every learner. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with people of many different ages and backgrounds, and I value the individuality each student brings to the classroom.

Travel has been an important influence in both my personal and professional life. I have journeyed widely across Europe, America, and Africa, experiences which have broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of the ways in which language and culture are intertwined. I bring these insights into my lessons, encouraging students to see Portuguese not only as a subject to study but also as a living language that enriches their outlook on the world.

ABOUT MS ROCHA

Away from teaching, I enjoy fast walking, which allows me to clear my mind and reflect, as well as to challenge myself physically. Writing is another passion that has stayed with me throughout my life. Whether capturing thoughts from my travels, recording moments of reflection, or exploring ideas creatively, writing enables me to remain attentive to the nuances of expression - something I try to pass on to my students.

Above all, I see teaching as an exchange: while I guide learners in their journey with Portuguese, they also inspire me with their curiosity, determination, and unique perspectives.
